The University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer (HEL) in Germany has approximately 4,400 students and 400 employees and two campuses, in Emden (engineering) and in Leer (nautical). Both cities have solid maritime traditions, i.e. in shipbuilding or as hometown of several shipping companies that play an important role in relation to employment in the region. Approximately 20% of the German merchant fleet is registered in Leer.
The Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer is a location with a long tradition. In 1854 the Educational Institution Städtische Navigationsschule Leer (“National Navigation School Leer”) was founded. Today, the Faculty of Maritime Studies of the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer is scientifically and technically extremely modern and a prestigious training establishment for future leaders in the commercial ocean shipping industry and the maritime economy.
With the bachelor degree course in Nautical Science and in Maritime Technology and Shipping Management, the University of Applied Sciences Emden/Leer offers a university education with class that can also be extended to a complete master degree.
